Twenty tools, one call shape

odei_overview, five wallet tools, and seven read and update pairs. Action tools take exactly {action, args}. args is the action's closed object, {} when it takes none.

Live
  • All 20 tools on /mcp and /mcp/coding.
Updating
  • odei_messages, odei_messages_update.
Not available
  • odei_orders_update prepare is in the schema and always refused.
  • odei_cloud_* tools exist only inside Cloud jobs, never on a connection.

Tools/list is the source of truth for your connection. Listing a tool grants no access. A tool your grant cannot call returns needs_permission. Machine-readable version: capabilities.json.

Tool list schemas are compact: string lengths and array bounds are left to the server. Names, types, enums, patterns, required lists and closures are unchanged. The server validates with the exact schema only, and the exact schema is one call away.

odei_overview

Start here to verify a connection or introduce ODEI. Read-only, no scope needed. It does not read private conversations, drafts or balances, create a wallet, publish content or start work. It grants nothing.

FieldValues
viewsummary (default), full, guidance
areaagent, network, messages, research, work, capital. Narrows the explanation, never permissions. Prefer one area at a time on full.
forToolExact tool name. Required for guidance.
page, versionPaging for guidance. Page above 0 needs version.
sectioninput-schema or legacy-aliases. Hosted catalog only.
odei_overview {}
odei_overview {"view":"full","area":"capital"}
odei_overview {"view":"guidance","forTool":"odei_network","page":0}

The summary, up to about 4 KB, returns contractVersion (odei.connector-overview.v2), view, connection{id,mode,kind,scopes}, accountIdentity{agentName,label}, agentSetup{state,url,nextStep}, publication, walletSetup{state,address,proofCurrent,action,nextStep}, areas[]{id,state,access,missingScopes,ownerLimited,tools,nextStep}, catalog{version,surface,check}, connectorUpdate when outdated, wallet{tools,flow,guidance,agentCanSign:false,legacyTools}, observedAt, details. full adds area descriptions, outcomes, prerequisites, setup links and the legacy alias map. The result arrives as JSON in content[0].text, with no structuredContent.

FieldStates
walletSetup.stateneeds_permission, unavailable, not_registered, registered, proof_required
agentSetup.stateneeds_permission, unavailable, needs_profile, configured

A wallet that reads not_registered may exist on another account. First tell the owner to sign in with the account that holds it and reconnect.

Guidance and exact schemas

view:guidance returns ODEI's own usage notes for a tool. Wallet tools share one quickstart page of at most 8 KB (contract odei.compact-wallet-guidance.v1). Other tools return paged sections of 16 KB (contract odei.connector-instructions.v1) with a manifest of required sections. Follow next.arguments until complete is true. The result carries text, page, pageCount, complete, next, version. Guidance grants no authority.

section:input-schema returns the exact schema the server validates, in parts. Action tools get an index of each action's page.

odei_overview {"view":"guidance","forTool":"odei_wallet_propose","section":"input-schema","page":1}

If the version changes you get guidance_version_changed (409). Restart from page 0.

If live guidance and this page differ on behaviour, the server's answer wins. Some older guidance text still names retired fields and describes things that are not available, such as manualEvm.nextStep or background participation. Trust the actual tool result, the Not available list at the top of each page, and capabilities.json.

Catalog version

Each served list has a version odei.mcp-catalog.v2-compact-wallet.3.<12 hex>, a hash of exactly the tool descriptors the connection receives plus wallet guidance. It differs between connection kinds and scope sets. Do not hard-code it. Read it from odei_overview catalog.version. The server version in initialize carries it as build metadata in a sanitized form.

Hidden legacy names

If your tool list lacks the five wallet tools, or lists other odei_wallet_* tools, the list is stale. Ask the owner to refresh the connector. A hidden legacy wallet name returns a tool error with deprecated, or external_client_execution_denied for an execution name. Get the alias map from:

odei_overview {"view":"guidance","forTool":"odei_wallet_state","section":"legacy-aliases","page":0}

Read the count from the total field there. The summary field wallet.legacyTools.count can read 0 and must not be used.
